Allen Chaffee

British author. Wrote a number of children's books including some adaptations of classic children's lit such as Hiawatha, Pinnochio and The Wizard of Oz. Also wrote a short pony series about a Dartmoor pony called Wandy in the usual pony viewpoint style of the time. They have nice illustrations by D. L. Hays, although the UK editions do not have very attractive jackets.

Wandy Series:

1) WANDY THE WILD PONY
(JOHN MURRAY 1933)
ILLUSTRATED BY D. L. MAYS
Reprinted a few times in hardback.
There was also an American edition published by Smith and Haas
SUMMARY: Wandy is a wild Dartmoor pony. He is captured by a couple of children and although he likes being domesticated, he still yearns for the wild and a chance to escape back to the wilds of Dartmoor...

2) WANDY WINS!
(JOHN MURRAY 1938)
ILLUSTRATED BY D. L. MAYS
Reprinted a few times in hardback.
There was also an American edition published by Random House
SUMMARY: Wandy is back home again but is then stolen...

Collector's Info:
Hardback editions only, there were no paperback reprints. Both books are reasonably easy to find in the UK, although the second in the series is a bit more common than the first. Both books can also be found in the USA, where they were also published, and to a lesser extent in Australia. Apart from the American edition of Wandy Wins (pictured bottom far right), the jackets I've seen are no great shakes, so I would not bother paying  the extra for a jacketed copy.
